Photographer Takes Pictures Of Famous Landmarks Facing The Wrong Direction

Whenever anyone visits a famous landmark, the first thing they do is take a picture of themselves standing in front of it or just of the site itself. Imagine how many pictures there are out there of the same places, from slightly different angles, but all showing the same thing. But what happens if you have a different perspective, and choose to do something a little, well... backward? Photographer Oliver Curtis decided to mix things up when he visited famous places and took his photos from the wrong direction. He wanted to "turn around, and see a new aspect of the over-photographed sites of the world - to gaze elsewhere and to favor the incidental over the monumental." His collection of pictures seeks to draw attention to the fact that "It is easy to forget that these attractions are also places of work, staffed by janitors, security guards, cleaners and office guards who have a lack of awe born from daily exposure. Yet, despite not being present, the images are still suffused with their aura."

Check out the incredible pictures below, and see how many you would recognize if the names weren't written in!

Artist Travels To Beautiful Locations To Paint The Pattern of His Own Shirt

Art is a difficult topic to dicsuss because it's all a matter of taste; what one person finds beautiful, another person finds vulgur. It's all relative. But you know what isn't as relative? Humor. OK, it is, but what you're about to see is objectivally funny. Artist Hank Schmidt in der Beek and photographer Fabian Schubert have started a project where they travel to beautifully scenic locations, set up an easel and begin to paint. But Hank doesn't paint what he sees. No, he paints the design of the shirt he is wearing, while Fabiamn photographs him doing it. This hysterical take on classic outdoor painting gave us a laugh, so we thought we'd share it with you. Enjoy!

Photographer With Vitiligo Takes Stunning Pictures Of Women With Same Condition

Unfortunately, people tend to stare when they come across anyone who appears to be physically distinctive in some way. It's just human nature, but we unknowingly perpetuate stigmatization of being 'different'. It's not a good thing! Photographer Elisabeth Van Aalderen is trying to create beauty out of our differences, by capturing pictures of women who have Vitiligo (a skin condition that causes patches of skin to lose its pigment cells (melanocytes), resulting in the discoloration of patches in different areas of the body). Seeing the positivity in all types of physical appearances spreads the message to these women and the general public, that everyone is beautiful, no matter what they look like on the outside.

Instagram, and social media in general, is an illusion of perfection. The flawless models, the beautiful lighting, and the seemingly perfect lives conveyed in the pictures are all fake. And if you ever wondered how influencers get their pictures looking so immaculately perfect, American photographer Geo Leon posts behind the scenes of how he achieves these perfect photos. He shows the camera work, the poses, the props, the models, and the editing that goes into one picture, to show how not everything is as it seems. Check out some of his incredible work below.

Photographer Takes Random Photos Of Passers-by To Show Public Reaction To Overweight People

Photographer Haley Morris-Cafiero went out into the streets and started taking pictures of herself 'acting neutrally' and 'being distracted' in public in order to capture the reaction of random passers-by on camera. The project is called 'Wait Watchers' and with these series of pictures the artist, who herself is overweight, is trying to show everyone what it really means to be overweight in today's society. According to the De Milked, the photographer has struggled with eating disorders in the past and suffers from Hypothyroidism, a disorder that often affects person's weight. Still, she is happy with the way she looks and loves her body the way it is. She claims that she started the project as a social experiment and doesn't mean to make anyone feel bad about it, she's just trying to reflect the situation in the society. Via: De Milked

These Vacuum Sealed Wedding Photos Will Literally Take Your Breath Away

Japan continues to provide plenty of material when it comes to bizarre trends. The latest? Vacuum-packed wedding photos.

Tokyo-based photographer Haruhiko Kawaguchi'songoing photo series will take your breath away, literally. Titled "Flesh Love", it features bizarre portraits of couples tightly encased inside vacuum-sealed plastic bags. According to Kawaguchi, it's a way for people to express "how close and in love they are".

The process involved is simple, albeit risky. Couples are first covered in lube to avoid friction with the plastic. A vacuum then sucks out all the air inside, sealing the lovebirds in an uncomfortable cocoon of love. Kawaguchi then runs to his camera to snap two quick photos before telling his assistant to open the bag. The pairs have to hold their breath for 10 seconds or more, before being handed a can of oxygen. A medic is also on standby just in case things go awry. Wow!
